Zanzibar FA has been admitted as the newest member of Caf, supersport.com can report.

The new development will see Zanzibar as the 55th member of Caf after the 39th Caf general assembly in Addis Ababa unanimously voted to admit the country's FA.

Tanzania FA president Jamal Malinzi made his presentation on behalf of the Zanzibar FA asking the assembly to admit Zanzibar.

"Zanzibar has been active over the years and it has a running league and they are independent. I don't see why they should not be admitted as an independent federation because they have their own constitution and statutes," Malinzi told the Caf assembly on Thursday.

In 2005 Zanzibar's move to join Fifa was rejected by the congress.
