A Ghanaian referee made the cut but has been selected to only serve as a fourth official at the upcoming Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea, 30, is one of two such referees in the category for the final tournament for male footballers aged 17 and below. The other is Tunisian Haithem Kossai.
A letter dated April 17 and signed by the Confederation of African Football’s Refereeing Manager, Eddie Maillet to the respective associations’ selected match officials asked the bodies “to ensure that the selected referee arrives at the tournament in his best physical condition.”
