Asante Kotoko’s team bus rammed into a stationary truck on Wednesday night while travelling back home from a league match.

The 23-time league champions had honoured a matchday 22 at the El Wak Stadium located in Ghana capital, Accra.

They lost 1-0 to Inter Allies and were on a road trip back to their base, Kumasi, when the accident occurred around 9:45pm local time.

According to eyewitness reports, the Kotoko bus ran into the loaded truck parked [with no reflectors or any warning signs] on one of the lanes of the Accra-Kumasi stretch near Nkawkaw in the Eastern region of Ghana.

One person is feared dead while other personnel including players on the bus suffered various degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

The Ghana FA, as well as a number of individuals and clubs have offered their support for the Porcupine Warriors.

Asante Kotoko were returning home to begin preparations for a crucial clash against arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the Ghanaian top-flight. The game is originally scheduled for Sunday, 16 July.
