With MotoGP's Italian riders dominating at Mugello, the Spaniards are keen to do the same at Barcelona with Marc Marquez quickest in Friday's second practice.

After a damp start to the weekend in FP1, the riders were quickly into the action at the Circuit de Catalunya, laying down the laps in the dry.

Andrea Dovizioso set the early pace before losing out to Marquez, who earlier this year tested on the new layout of the Spanish circuit. The reigning champ clocked a 1:45.159 to edge 0.026s ahead.

Jorge Lorenzo briefly shot up to third, lining up behind his Ducati teammate, only to be pipped by Tito Rabat, who used a tow from the former champ to overhaul him.

Lorenzo fought back, returning to third but still a quarter of a second off the pace.

Swapping to the soft rear tyre, Alvaro Bautista, who earlier in the session fell at turn 14 carrying too much speed into the new chicane, hit the front on his Aspar Ducati with a 1:45.116 and three minutes remaining in the session.

However, by the time the chequered flag fell, he was down in ninth place, Marquez was back on top with a 1:44.295 and Lorenzo was second, 0.405s slower.

Jonas Folger was third for Yamaha Tech 3, finishing ahead of Dovizioso, Danilo Petrucci and Rabat.

Valentino Rossi was P10, 0.823s down on Marquez's P1 time.

There were also falls for Hector Barbera, who crashed at turn 10 and appeared to hurt the small finger on his left hand, while Cal Crutchlow went down at turn 5.
